A Dodge Charger Hellcat that can complete the quarter-mile in nine seconds recently squared off against a Tesla Plaid across that distance in a drag race.

Can you guess who came out on top?

Well, we’re not going to tell you just yet, but all will be revealed.

Both of these cars are capable of hitting the heights over a drag strip, so you’d assume it would be a close one, but you’d be wrong.

The Tesla Plaid is no stranger to a drag race, having taken on all comers, including a Lamborghini Huracán, a Rimac Nevera, and even a Suzuki Hayabusa motorbike.

To be fair, this isn’t even the first time we’ve seen this remarkable EV take on Dodge Hellcat.

This is no ordinary Hellcat, though.

This Dodge Charger Hellcat has claws

The next generation of Dodge Charger Hellcat is here, and – from what we know so far – it’s got some serious pace to it.

Over the quarter-mile distance synonymous with drag racing, this beast can break 10 seconds and recently completed a run-through in 9.7 seconds with an exit speed of 145mph.

In short, this thing can shift.

The ‘ordinary’ version of the car boasts an impressive 700 horsepower as it rolls off the production line, not bad for a car that has enough seats for a family, as well as room for their luggage, too.

This one is a different story.

We have to assume that it’s been tuned up, and tuned up well.

It recently bashed through 9.7 seconds across the Island Dragway in New Jersey, so it can hang with almost any opposition.

The Tesla Plaid is a match for anything on the drag strip

Across the strip, the Hellcat was faced by a car that has rapidly proven itself a drag legend in the making.

The Tesla Plaid has been seen to complete the ¼ mile in less than nine seconds – 8.59 to be precise – and can go from 0-60mph in less than two seconds.

All while sounding a little bit like a washing machine.

The drag race itself.

In the video – which you can see below, both cars got away to a flying start, racing neck and neck down the straight track.

Ultimately, there wasn’t much in it, but the Hellcat managed to snatch victory at the last, clocking in at 9.78 to the Tesla Plaid’s 10.12.

It might not seem like it, but that’s quite a distance on the drag strip, especially given the reputation of both cars.

This won’t be the last we’ve heard of the Tesla Plaid, though.
