Elon Musk shared a video on X showing a Tesla driving itself through a complex parking lot quite quickly and seamlessly.

With FSD, Full Self-Driving, Teslas can navigate just about any environment without any help from the actual human behind the wheel.

With this new feature called Smart Summon, the car can essentially park and ‘unpark’ itself.

Based on what we’re seeing in this video, it clearly works quite well.

How does Tesla’s Smart Summon work?

The clip, shared by AI DRIVR and then reposted by Elon Musk, shows how Smart Summon works.

Smart Summon is the evolution of an old feature that Tesla vehicles used to have years ago.

With the old version, called Summon, you could park the car using the Tesla app, but what you could with it was limited.

The vehicle could only drive itself forward and backwards, in reverse, but it couldn’t steer or parallel park.

With Smart Summon, the car can extricate itself from a parking spot, and then drive itself to you.

Quite convenient.

‘Don’t but Tesla stock if you think we can’t solve autonomy’

Elon Musk is putting most of his eggs – some would say all of his eggs – in this particular basket: autonomy.

For years, Musk has repeatedly said we shouldn’t call Tesla an automaker because he believes Tesla should be considered a robotics company that also makes cars.

That’s why the company is constantly sharing videos showcasing what its humanoid robot Optimus can do.

He’s also convinced robotics, not cars, will turn Tesla in the world’s richest company.

Whether we agree with him or not, we at least have to concede that Musk has always been crystal clear on this.

During an earnings call back in April, he literally told his investors they shouldn’t ‘buy Tesla stock if you think we can’t solve autonomy‘.

Maybe they haven’t ‘solved’ it yet, but they’re certainly making progress.
