This EV owner took her Chevy Bolt to a charging station for the first time and was surprised at the unexpected price she saw.
As EVs are becoming more and more popular, people are starting to rely on them much more than before.
Although these cars are supposed to cost less than gas, it seems that wasn’t the case this time around.
Plus she also had to wait an hour for her car to charge to 80%.

EV owner shocked at the price of charging her Chevy Bolt
TikToker user @calijessxoo posted a video of taking her new Chevy Bolt for the first time at a charging station.
However, she was surprised at how much she had to pay to charge it for the first time.
In a recent comparison, we saw the charging costs of a Tesla Model 3 are way lower than a gas-powered car.
However, that comparison was done by charging the EV at home, and not everyone can afford to install a charging station at home.
That’s why many EV owners use pre-existing stations to power their cars, just like this TikTok user.
In the video, we can also see an EVgo charging station where the kiosk tells her to plug in her car.

“This is my first time charging my new electric car,” she says.
After she completed the transaction at the kiosk, she was also quite surprised that it had charged her $55.
“Oh my god, why did you charge me $55?” She exclaimed.
Plus, even with fast charging, her dashboard said it would take her Chevy Bolt around an hour to charge to 80%.
How do EV charging stations work?
Although $55 would be normal for a tank of gas, that’s not the case for EVs.
Fortunately, the $55 is just the hold on her account.
After she charges her car, the kiosk will only charge her for the amount of electricity she uses.
The rest of the money will also go back into her account.
