In the thrilling world of trucks, there’s one legendary tale that stands out: the story of the Waltzing Matilda truck.
Built by a father-son duo back in the 70s, this wasn’t just any ordinary vehicle — as it was powered by a jet engine.
Imagine a big, powerful truck zooming down the road with the roar of a jet plane.
That’s the Waltzing Matilda for you.

Terry O’Hare and his son Stephen were the masterminds behind this incredible creation.
Terry had a passion for building fast cars, so when he heard about the world’s fastest truck coming to town, he knew he had to do something about it.
With determination and a team of dedicated workers, they built the Waltzing Matilda in just six weeks!
But what made this vehicle so special?
Well, for starters, it used a jet engine taken from an old airplane.
This ex-RAAF Rolls-Royce Avon MK1 jet engine was the heart and soul of the vehicle.
It gave the vehicle the power to reach incredible speeds that no other truck could match.
Despite facing challenges like blown-up motors and tough competition, the Waltzing Matilda never lost its spirit.
Even though it didn’t win every race, it was still regarded as a legend in the world of trucks.
People admired its courage and determination to take on the fastest trucks in the world.
And then came the moment everyone was waiting for — the world record attempt.
On a sunny day in January 1979, the Waltzing Matilda took to the road with one goal in mind — to break the world record for the fastest truck. And break it, it did.
With a speed of 276 miles per hour, the blue behemoth made history that day.
Even though the vehicle is no longer on the road, its legacy lives on. Enthusiasts still talk about its incredible speed and fearless spirit.
Who knows – maybe one day, someone will rebuild the Waltzing Matilda and bring it back to life for a new generation to admire and cheer for?
