Imagine you have an extremely rare classic car – let’s say – one of the very first Chevy Impala SS models that ever left the factory — but instead of showing it off, you decide to sell it.

Well, as weird as it sounds, someone did precisely that.

We’re sure the owner must have had a reason to pass it on, but they could also have never recognized its real value.

This was one of the most lucrative sales, and if its new buyer knew their classics, they got a solid deal.

Owner sold Chevy Impala SS from first-ever batch

Someone on Craigslist was selling a Chevy Impala SS from the first-ever batch that came out in 1961.

The Impala was one of the most sought-after cars of its time, but the SS was an even bigger deal.

You see, the Impala was an instant hit when it rolled out in 1958, but it took GM some more time to introduce the Super Sport package.

It wasn’t Super Sport just by its name, either.

The SS trim featured heavy-duty springs, a revamped dash, flashy wheel covers, and other minor upgrades.

For the price of less than $60, owners could enjoy a sweet upgrade over the regular Impala — both on hard-top and convertible variants.

We’ve seen our fair share of barn finds with abandoned early Impala models, but you rarely get to see an SS trim.

Less than 500 units of these were made, and this example on Craigslist is one of them.

Although the owner didn’t provide any documentation in the listing, they likely knew what it was.

Its value, however, was a different story.

Deal or no deal?

For hardcore fans and collectors, this could easily fetch up to six figures if it was in pristine condition.

This Chevy Impala SS came with all the original goodies except for a resprayed body, which was still a good enough offering.

Despite that, the owner was asking for $36,500.

It certainly needed some work inside out, but cars like these are often invaluable to some.

Additionally, this example featured a 348 cubic-inch V8 engine that sends out 350 horsepower.

Paired with Chevy’s Tri-Power package, and the owner mentioning that it ran just fine, it was a fair price, to say the least.

The listing has now been removed, so it likely got a new owner already.

We hope its new owner gives the Chevy Impala SS a proper treatment so it can shine again.
