This abandoned, rusted-out go-kart just got brought back to life

This go-kart was abandoned and left to rot, but thanks to some hard work and elbow grease, it's being given a new lease on life. And the transformation is remarkable.

Go-kart restoration

This old go-kart from the 2000s has been left to rot.

It’s covered in rust and doesn’t even run anymore.

Thankfully, it’s about to be restored to its former glory.

MrRescue, as he’s aptly named, starts by dismantling the go-kart.

Literally every part, including the nuts and bolts, are stripped down.

At this point, the task ahead of him was laid bare.

The chassis of the go-kart then needed a good deep clean.

So, MrRescue sprayed cleaner onto the chassis and agitated it with a brush to remove the dirt, mud and grime.

After a quick hose off, he applied a chemical to remove the patchy purple paint from the chassis.

With the chassis stripped back to the bare metal, the next job was to spray paint it.

First he applied a coat of primer before covering the entire chassis in purple paint.

The chassis was now looking in tip-top condition, but the job wasn’t done yet.

MrRescue now had to dismantle the shafts so they could also be thoroughly cleaned.

In order to remove the rust from the shafts, he used an angle grinder with a wire brush attachment.

All the mechanical components needed stripping down for cleaning, many of which were covered in rust, so the wire brush had to be used for this, too.

Perhaps the most satisfying part of this incredible restoration was cleaning the go-kart’s seat.

After cleaning the plastic, MrRescue turned his attention to the fabric seat base.

Thick with years of dirt, he worked tirelessly to clean it, before spraying a fresh coat of red dye over the fabric bringing it back to life.

The wheels were given a quick clean and then the panels of the go-kart were spray painted in a deep shade of purple.

Finally, some minor welding work was required on the chassis before it could all start to be put back together.

In the end, the go-kart looked as good as it did when it was brand new. Maybe even better.

Bravo, MrRescue.
