The famous Home Alone house has finally found a new owner, and they didn’t get it cheap.

In fact, the iconic mansion in Chicago was sold for a whopping $5.5 million, which is way more than the asking price.

This house, known for its role in the classic 1990 Christmas movie, was listed for sale in May 2024 and sold in just seven months.

Fans of the film might be curious to know what makes this house so special – the answer is almost everything.

Famous Home Alone house sold for more than the asking price

Located in Winnetka, Illinois, the Home Alone house was bought by its previous owners, Tim and Trisha Johnson, in 2012 for about $1.5 million.

The home is pretty big – covering 9,000 square feet – and got even bigger after a renovation in 2018.

It now has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, offering plenty of space.

Here’s a piece of trivia for fans of the movie – even though the house’s exterior was heavily featured, most of the inside scenes were filmed on a set built in a local high school gym.

But, the real mansion is still impressive on the inside, not too dissimilar to this $48 million villa with a supercar glass room.

It has a fancy kitchen with top-of-the-line appliances and a built-in banquette, great for anyone who loves to cook.

A luxurious house that still attracts fans today

Upstairs, there’s a luxurious primary suite with a spa, and the attic turned into a cozy junior suite with beautiful views of the neighborhood.

If you go down to the basement, you’ll find a personal gym, a fun recreation area, a movie theater, and even a bar.

Another cool feature of the mansion is its indoor sports court, perfect for some family fun.

Built in 1920, the home attracts tons of tourists every year, especially during the Christmas season.

While it’s great that the house gets a bit of attention, that might also have a downside.

Police often increase their presence around the area to handle the holiday crowds and avoid any problems.

Still, if you want to live in an iconic mansion, these are the sorts of things you’ll have to square away.
