A man in the US found an abandoned hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai in a junkyard.

The car didn’t have a lot of miles on the clock, but it was in terrible shape.

It looks like it was involved in a crash, and it must’ve been a very bad one.

Interestingly, the Toyota Mirai was located in Colorado, not California, which was the only state where it was sold at the time.

This car is beyond saving

The car was found by Murilee Martin, a content creator and YouTuber from the United States.

The Toyota Mirai in question is a 2017 model, and it was discovered in 2021.

Back in 2017, the only state where you could buy a hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai was California.

But this car was discovered in Colorado, near Denver, about 1,000+ miles from the nearest border with California.

We don’t know what happened to it, but whatever it was, it clearly killed the car.

From the interior to the front and rear section, it’s completely wrecked.

About the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai

Hydrogen cars, also known as FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles) have a couple of advantages over battery-powered electric vehicles.

Charging only takes a few minutes, and hydrogen, unlike for example the lithium and cobalt that are used to manufacture batteries, doesn’t need to be mined or sourced.

The problem is you sometimes don’t get much in terms of range; for example, one Toyota Mirai owner said $90 at the ‘pump’ only got him 176 miles.

This explains why the Toyota Mirai, despite being the best-selling hydrogen-powered car in the world, is still relatively rare.

Last year, Toyota only sold 3,737 Mirais.

For reference, Rolls-Royce delivered twice as many vehicles in 2023.

Imagine that.
