A Tesla Model 3 owner from LA has broken down the home charging costs of her EV and how much her electricity bill went up since getting it.
Unfortunately, your electricity provider will not give you a breakdown of how much it costs to charge your car.
Fortunately, she managed to find an app that tracks how many kilowatt hours you’re using by syncing with your Tesla.
So her results were accurate.

Tesla Model 3 home charging costs
According to YouTuber Shelby Church who owns a Tesla Model 3, your charging costs depend heavily on the area you live.
Since prices of electricity differ in each state, it makes a huge difference where you’re charing your EV car.
Regardless, the charging cost will still be significantly lower than a gas car, according to this Tesla owner who calculated the total cost after 75,000 miles.
In LA, where Shelby lives, she revealed she pays 23 cents per kilowatt hour on average.
However, since she lives with roommates it’s hard to calculate how much electricity the Tesla Model 3 uses.
Fortunately, she found an app called EV Energy app that syncs with her Tesla to track the power it uses.
Monthly cost of charging a Tesla
The app showed how much it cost based on the electricity rate from the provider.
So she tried the app for a month and found out that she used 162 kWh to charge her Tesla at home.
She figured out that it cost her just $36.14 to charge her EV car for a month.
That’s after she drove her car about 700 miles that month.
