Maserati marks 20 years of MC12 with 2 stunning new editions

Maserati is celebrating 20 years of its MC12 by releasing two special edition MC20s. 

The luxury car manufacturer launched the two-seater MC12 back in 2004 with a limited run of just 50 cars, plus 12 produced for racing. 

The coveted car was originally supposed to be produced in even smaller quantities – with plans to create just 12 of the supercars for private customers.

However, the FIA GT Championship required the brand to have a road-legal version of the car to obtain the necessary certifications, and thus the 2004 Maserato MC12.

And it quickly earned a reputation as one of the most amazing supercars on the planet. 

The Maserati MC20 Icona

To mark two decades since the MC12 first hit the market, Maserati has announced that a couple of swish MC20s – MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda – will be made. 

The MC20 Icona is inspired by the MC12 Stradale.

It features a blue and white livery with the Maserati Fuoriserie logo on the side and the Italian flag logo on the door below the MC20 lettering. 

Its chrome-plated wheels have a Trident design with silver hubcaps contrasted with a blue Trident logo.

All in all, it looks pretty darn cool, doesn’t it?

The MC20 Leggenda

Meanwhile, the Maserati Leggenda has a ‘Nero Essenza [essential black] and Digital Mint Matte’, colored livery, which according to the car-maker, harks back to the MC12 GT1 which managed three wins at the 24 Hours of Spa. 

Personalization on this model includes ‘trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Nero Opaco and Trident Digital Mint hubcaps; the Trident logo in yellow on the grille, doors and C-pillar; finally, brake calipers painted black’. 

Both models come with ‘racing interiors’, with lightweight four-way monocoque racing seats as well as Trident embroidery on the headrest along with the words ‘Icona’ or ‘Leggenda’, depending on the model you go for. 

As you’d expect from a high-end car, both the Icona and Leggenda are fitted with a top-notch Sonus faber sound system and have a carbon fiber interior package as standard. 

Aesthetics aside, the cars’ mechanics are your standard-issue MC20; a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 which can generate 612 horsepower and hit  0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 2.9 seconds. 

Much like the MC12, these new motors are incredibly exclusive, with just 20 of each being made.

So if you fancy getting your hands on one, you’d better make like an MC12 and move fast.
