Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren marked the start of a new era for both Mercedes and McLaren

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is an important milestone in McLaren and Mercedes-Benz’s history because it was the last car they built together.
The exact model you see here is even more important than that because it is the range-topping 722 SLR.
It’s like the ‘normal’ SLR but more powerful and rare.
This remarkable machine – one of only 150 in existence – is available from SBX Cars.

Mercedes-Benz part-owned McLaren at the time, which explains why McLaren appeared in the name but the car only has Mercedes badges and logos.
It was unveiled in 2003 and discontinued in 2010.
They only sold 2,157 units in total, but that’s including all limited-edition models, which is what this 2007 example is.
A limited-edition version for a legend
The 722 edition is a modern take on another SLR car that was – in turn – a tribute to Sir Stirling Moss, one of the most successful racing drivers of all time.
The name 722 is a reference to the starting time (7:22) of the 1955 Mille Miglia race that put Moss’ name on the map.
The 722 uses the same 5.4-liter supercharged V8 as the regular SLR, but it’s more powerful, putting out 641 horsepower.
The engine in this one has put 14,500 miles under its belt.

The SLR changed the way Mercedes and McLaren operated.
It was the first and last supercar they built together, but it was the foundation for what they made after.
After going their separate ways, Mercedes followed up on the SLR with the SLS AMG and the AMG GT.
McLaren did the same.
The British marque created its first road car since the F1, and they started a new division to do it.
After the McLaren 12C, initially called MP4-12C, they made a lot more, including the 720S, which is the one that cemented their name in the supercar world
So loud and wild, and yet somewhat understated
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren is very low to the ground, has gull-wing doors, and is somewhat understated as far as supercars and luxury grand tourers go.
This one is finished in silver with black wheels and black interior with red stitching.
