This YouTuber from England tried driving a Chinese EV — the BYD Seal — to see how it fared in real life against other cars.

BYD is currently the world’s best-selling EV maker.

Priced between $19,300 and $26,300 USD, the Chinese EV is proving extremely popular.

What YouTuber Nick O’Leary discovered while driving the Seal certainly took him by surprise.

Man tried BYD Seal Chinese EV for a week to see what it’s like

English YouTuber Nick O’Leary switched up his daily driver for a week with a BYD Seal to see if it was any good.

In a review video he posted to YouTube, he shared his experience with the Chinese EV.

It wasn’t anything like the world’s cheapest EV someone ordered from Alibaba, by the way.

An interesting part of his experience was when onlookers asked him which car he was driving, probably because of its unique look.

As for the specifics, he loved how it looked and felt — both inside and outside.

Nick mentioned the BYD Seal was a well-built EV, and barring a few nitpicks, it was an excellent vehicle.

On the inside, the Chinese EV had a subtle interior and checked all the boxes from infotainment to comfort.

His driving experience also came as a surprise because he admitted he didn’t have high expectations.

“I’m actually more impressed with it than I thought I was going to be,” he said.

How does it compare to a Tesla?

For the unaware, BYD is currently the world’s best-selling EV maker.

That fact alone naturally makes it one of Tesla’s biggest rivals.

As for how the BYD Seal would compare to something like a Tesla Model Y, it’s certainly a close race.

The Model Y is Tesla’s best-selling vehicle, making up for the majority of sales numbers.

But BYD makes a lot more models than Tesla.

BYD’s Yangwang U9 is nothing short of a sports car that would directly rival something like a Model S Plaid.

While we haven’t seen it drag race like when the Model S Plaid went against a Lucid Air once, it has other tricks up its sleeve.

For instance, it was spotted dancing in public and can now also ‘jump’ over potholes and road spikes.
