Swedish automaker Polestar is giving you the opportunity to design its next concept car.
The all-electric performance brand owned by Volvo is running its third annual design contest.
Two winners will be named – one for interior design, and one for exterior design – but don’t think the designs will be limited to a JPEG file.

Instead, the company is actually going to build full-size scale models of the winners.
One winner will be from the pool of professional designers entering, while the other will be by a student designer.
It’ll show them off at the 2023 Auto Shanghai motor show, too.
Surely that has to be every designer’s dream – their concept car design being turned into a real model.
The brief for the 2022 Design Contest is pretty simple.
Contestants are being asked to “design a Polestar vehicle that is about the experience of ‘Performance’.”

However, with this being an EV brand, it does need to be showcased in a forward-thinking way.
So, it needs to “visually show a new form of ‘Performance'” that breaks away
The company has also added that “the designs do not need to be a car, but they do need to be a Polestar.”
‘Performance’ follows the previous competitions’ themes of ‘Pure’ and ‘Progressive’.
The futuristic treehouse Polestar just built was actually an honourable mention in the 2021 contest, so it’s clear the brand is keen to bring these designs to life.
To provide some other inspiration, as this design has to be for a vehicle, previous entrants have included a car that cleans the air with externally visible air filters.
An electric and helium-powered airship, prosthetic springboard blades for amputees to walk with, and a luxury yacht have also been commended designs.
Entries for the 2022 Polestar Design Competition are open for just one week from August 22 to 31 with winners to be announced on November 11.
Keen to design your own concept car and potentially have it built? You can enter the competition over on Polestar’s website.
