Sony has recently released the Reon Pocket 5, a portable air conditioner that goes under your shirt.

This interesting new gadget offers a potentially more convenient solution to stay cool on a sunny day.

The futuristic wearable body air conditioner can be tucked into the back of your shirt and regulate your body temperature.

The Reon Pocket 5 has a concept that feels strikingly similar to the Stillsuits worn by the Fremen from Frank Herbert’s Dune.

If you are living somewhere in a warm environment, this portable air conditioner can be a huge quality of life improvement.

Sony is not a stranger to making different products and thinking outside the box.

One such example would be their partnership with Honda to create their first EV car, Afeela.

Their newest portable air conditioner device is also in the same vein of products.

The device is not just a simple fan – instead, it creates a microclimate around your core.

It offers five cooling levels for hot days and four heating levels for cooler situations.

The portable air conditioner also comes with a Reon Pocket Tag, which acts as a sensor to detect ambient temperature and humidity.

It then sends that data to the neck unit which adjusts your body temperature before you feel heat or cold.

We have seen many devices like these, which can replace traditional devices like smartphones or in this case, air conditioners.

However, only time can tell if they will be adopted by the general public or not.

The portable air conditioner first debuted in Japan in 2019, with later versions succeeding in Asian markets.

However, the Reon Pocket 5 is set for a global launch, with the UK being the first market.

It is currently selling on Sony’s website for £139 (roughly $174), with shipments starting on May 15.

You’ll no doubt get someone asking, ‘What the heck is that?’

But remember Apple’s AirPods were also ridiculed when they first released.
