The Tesla Cybertruck could be getting a range boost next year – but, like many things in life, there’s a bit of a catch.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), depending on the model, the Cybertruck is good for between 250 miles (402km) and 340 miles (547km) of range, but there are plenty of things that can impact that number.

How you drive the truck, how fast you travel, and even the weather conditions can all play a part in the real-life range you’ll get from your EV’s battery.

But for those hoping for more, Tesla is set to launch a range extender.

The Tesla Cybertruck could be getting a range boost in 2025

Although there are estimates out there from both Tesla and the EPA, in practice, and as expected, Cybertruck owners are seeing a bit of variance.

One guy has shared his real-life range after traveling 50,000 miles (80,467km) in under a year, and another has shared his data after clocking up 2,000 miles (3,218km).

While the pair of Cybertruckers mentioned above are both happy with their EV offers, for those looking for a boost, the range extender could be a great idea.

Recently highlighted by the guys from the E for Electric YouTube channel, the range extender pretty much does what it says on the tin: adds on more range.

How much extra milage are we talking?

Tesla says its range extender will add an extra 445 miles (716km) onto its All Wheel Drive and 415 miles (667km) onto the Cyberbeast – but there’s a bit of a catch.

Firstly, the range extender is an optional extra and costs an additional $16,000.

Secondly, as the range extender is basically a second battery, it takes up around one-third of the truck bed – although Elon Musk has previously said that still leaves ‘plenty’ of room for cargo.

Tesla initially announced that the range extender would be available early next year, but its since pushed that back with the website saying production is set to commence in ‘mid-2025’.

But if you’re keen to get your hands on one, you can reserve one for $2,000.
