This YouTuber made his very own flying Iron Man suit

A YouTuber has actually built a flying Iron Man suit in his garage.

The best part is, it actually flies to you.

JLaservideo, real name Jake Laser, said it was a dream of his since he first saw Iron Man.

It didn’t happen overnight, though.

Jake had to wait 14 years to be able to turn his dream into reality – and for it to be technologically possible, too.

The project actually proved a huge challenge as the video shows.

Starting with the fact that physics don’t lie, and you need a lot of thrust to make the suit (and the person wearing it) fly.

Describing himself as “just a dude in a garage,” Jake set about trying to build a high-tech flying Iron Man suit.

Rather than using fossil fuel to power the jetpack, though, he opted to go down the electric route.

He used custom electric jets, which took an entire year to get, at a cost of $30,000.

That’s not including the tens of thousands he spent on the frame, custom batteries, and testing equipment.

Despite spending all that money, Jake’s efforts resulted in numerous failed attempts to get the jetpack to fly.

At one point in the video we really thought he was going to call time on the project.

But he found his second wind and changed course, opting for smaller jets rather than using big EDFs, minimizing the risk of overheating and fires.

This proved a pivotal decision, as Jake was able to get the jetpack to fly, albeit unsteadily.

But, with some tweaks, he was finally able to get the jetpack to take off and fly steadily.

He even had fun learning how to fly, leaning left to fly left and leaning right to fly right, just like Iron Man.

Next up, Jake added flight computers to each of the arms and the back of the suit.

This was to tell the motors how to balance on their own like a drone. 

Finally, the parts of the suit were able to fly to him, just like in the movie.

There were times during the journey when the YouTuber questioned why he was doing it.

But his persistence paid off, as the end product is super cool.
