1968 Corvette 427 barn find found in Alabama is found to have a surprising past

This 1968 Corvette 427 has been abandoned in a barn in Alabama for a few years.

The owner parked it in a barn and more less forgot all about it.

But the reason why he made that decision is interesting. 

Now, many years later, he’s decided to do something about it.

The story behind this 1968 Corvette 427 

The owner of the car bought it in 1974, when he was still in high school.

The owner apparently found it quite difficult to stay within the boundaries of the law with his car.

The state of Alabama, where the Corvette owner lived, wasn’t exactly the toughest place in the world when it came to traffic-related laws back then.

Even so, after running into trouble with the local police pretty much on a weekly basis, he made the decision to park the car at his parents’ place and leave it there. 

Time went by and then life happened, and the car remained there, untouched, for decades.

Now he wants to drive it again, as he told the guys from the Junkyard Life YouTube channel.

The Corvette is not in great condition, but that’s mostly due to neglect, not because of an accident, so it should possible, albeit probably not easy, to repair it.

The reason why they call it the ‘427’

Back in the 1960s and 1970s, American automakers would often nickname their cars after the size of the engine.

This Chevy Corvette, for example, is powered by a relatively rare engine that everyone calls the 427 because of its size.

This is a 7-liter V8, equivalent to 427 cubic inches.

The name 427 is also sometimes used for what people call the ‘scariest muscle car’ in the world, the Shelby 427 Super Snake.
