An urban explorer and YouTuber has discovered an abandoned ferry, once purchased by an operator for $85 million, floating abandoned and decaying in an Italian port.
The ship is the Aeolos Kenteris, and it is currently rotting away in Sicily and looks like it’s straight from a zombie apocalypse movie.
The YouTuber – Kylesthenix – goes right into the bowels of the ship. Exploring everything from some of the lower decks to the captain’s bridge.
Unsurprisingly, the Kenteris is a mess. Pigeons have made it their new home and parts of the ship are now submerged underwater.

The Aeolos Kenteris is over 20 years old
The HSC Aeolos Kenteris, originally built in 2001 as a fast superyatcht, is now over twenty years old. It was initially part of the Lesvos Shipping Company fleet.
The ferry was built by Alstom in France, and can accommodate over 1,700 passengers and nearly 450 vehicles.
At the time, it was one of the fastest ships in the world, with a top speed of up to 40 knots.
The interior was full of luxury, with a bar for both first and economy class passengers, satellite TVs, and headphones to plug into seats.
Sadly, a sale in 2016 sealed the Kenteris’s fate.
The plan was to renovate it and charter it to Italy.
However, the work resulted in seized debts of up to five million euros.
Work stopped, leading to the ship’s current state in Italy.
The abandoned Kenteris is now a playground for pigeons
The video by Kylesthenix shows the dilapidated state of the vessel.
The cabins are in ruins, and the bridge is a mess of bird droppings and dirt.
The Kenteris is also now partially submerged in the harbor, with escalators to the lower decks impassible due to the water.
Life jackets were piled high, and parts of the roof were now caving into the cabins.
Unsurprisingly, the ship also stinks after years of neglect, and a plethora of birds are now turning it into their new home.

It’s currently unclear what the future holds for the vessel.
Various outlets report that there have been attempts to remove it.
But for now, it looks like the Aeolos Kenteris will remain rotting in an Italian harbor.
