An American YouTuber in China recently tested the Li Xiang L7 Max Hybrid SUV.
This is a hybrid with nearly 500HP that performs remarkably well compared to the more established Ranger Rover Sport SVR.
The Li Xiang is one of several Chinese hybrids and EVs that are compared very favorably to those from the West.
The YouTuber The_Plug_Worldwide ran through some of the car’s most impressive features, including its infotainment system, hybrid powertrain, and how much power it outputs.

The Li Xiang L7 has nearly 500HP under the hood
The L7 Max’s power figures are perhaps its most impressive aspect. Under the hood, it has a hybrid powertrain comprised of a 1.5-liter L2E15M inline-four and two synchronous electric motors.
Combined, the engine and EV aspect make 440HP, with the inline-four making up 152HP of that number.
This isn’t a million miles away from the mighty Range Rover Sport SVR.
The British SUV packs in a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 under the hood, outputting 575HP and 516lb-ft of torque.
The L7 should be quicker off the starting blocks. Its hybrid powertrain provides nearly instant torque as the Range Rover digs in.
The Li Xiang compares very favorably in price to the Range Rover
As with many new Chinese cars, the Li Xiang L7 is incredibly competitively priced.
While currently not available outside of China, the L7 costs between $43,000 and $48,100, depending on where the car is for sale.
Some Chinese car dealerships sell the SUV in USD, and remarkably, it is also available on AliExpress.
If the listings are to be believed, they ship abroad to places like the United States and the United Kingdom.
It is the price at which the L7 really excels against the Range Rover Sport SVR.
The SVR Sport’s base price is a staggering $180,000, which is astronomical even for a high-performance SUV.
While tariffs might hinder progress, cars such as the L7 will soon be officially available in the United States.
The world’s biggest automotive manufacturers are well aware of this, which is one reason Honda and Nissan are potentially partnering up to create rivals to the Chinese vehicles.
