Rare Apple sneakers from the 1990s are selling for an eye-watering sum

Sotheby’s is selling a pair of ultra-rare unreleased Apple sneakers for an enormous amount of cash.

The shoes are from the 1990s, and they’re what people might call NOS (new old stock).

They’ve never been worn, and it shows.

Style-wise, the sneakers were manufactured following the prevalent design language at the time.

Sneakerheads will probably see similarities between these and some classics from the era, such as the Nike Air Force One and the Nike Dunk Low.

Another quirky feature is the Apple logo.

The shoes are adorned with what Apple calls its ‘First Official Logo’, the rainbow-colored one that the tech company used for more than twenty years.

Apple eventually replaced its rainbow logo in the late 1990s, switching it for the monochrome one we’re all familiar with.

These shoes – size 10.5 US / EU 44 – were never released and never put on sale.

According to Sotheby’s, they were custom made for Apple, and a few employees were able to get them as part of a one-time giveaway at a National Sales Conference in the mid-1990s.

Included in the sale, you also get a pair of red laces.

They’re not cheap, though.

They’re available from Sotheby’s for $50,000, which means you need to be a bona fide sneakerhead with deep pockets to get your hands on them.

This is not an auction, by the way, so they’re sold on a first come, first served basis.

The most expensive sneakers in the world?

Despite the whopping $50,000 price tag, these are not the most expensive sneakers in the world.

That title belongs to a pair of game-worn sneakers wore by Micheal Jordan, which sold for $2.2 million (!) earlier this year.
