Man’s 2006 Ford F-250 pickup hit 1,000,000 miles in just 4 years and sparked a party

One Florida-based man who owned a 2006 Ford F-250 pickup inspired a celebration when he hit a mileage milestone.

Getting to 100,000 miles or 200,000 miles with the same car is impressive.

But 1,000,0000 miles? That calls for a big party.

Celebrating a Ford milestone in style

Phillip Marsella, from Port St. Lucie, Florida, managed to get his truck over the 1 million milestone within four years of purchasing it.

Marsella owed this partly to his job, which involved breeding and transporting racing greyhounds.

To celebrate his achievement, his mechanic decided to throw a party in his honour.

Buddy Hawkins, the manager of Total Tire in Palm City, said: “I’ve serviced the truck since Day 1, and we’re just going to have a customer appreciation day saying thanks for 1 million miles of service.

All in all, the million miles works out at $67,000 in oil changes and wrench turning on the truck.

Marsella said of Hawkins and his team: “It’s all these guys.

“We came in here not long after I bought the truck.

“We lived in Palm City, and it was convenient.

“They get me in and out of here, and sometimes I just park it and throw the keys under the door.

“They’ve even put the dogs in the backroom while they work on it.”

Marsella usually doesn’t travel much further than West Virginia in his line of work, though it all eventually adds up.

With all these miles he’s driven in his Ford, he could have circled the Earth 40 times.

Marsella began driving his dogs around not long after getting into the greyhound business, as he found organizing transport a bit of a hassle.

Once he began hauling his own dogs, his phone never stopped ringing.

Marsella and his two sons, Mike and Joe, take turns on driving duty.

Then, every 7,000 miles they will get an oil change.

The party was held at Total Tire from 10am to 1pm on October 23rd 2010, where Marsella was presented with brand new tires from Bridgestone/Firestone Tires.
