The new PlayStation 5 ‘slim’ digital model is sending the internet into a frenzy.
The new console, nicknamed the PS5 Slim, was announced overnight, seemingly out of the blue.
And despite it costing more than the standard model, fans argue the additional price is worth it.

Before the new console was announced, there were a number of rumors and clues spotted online.
Court documents were found in July which seemed to reveal the PS5 Slim would launch before 2024.
Footage of the new PS5 Slim case was also leaked in August around the time Playstation Portal dropped.
The new design fixes a few problems users reported with the previous device too.
It’s a third smaller than the original model, and significantly lighter than its bulky predecessor.
However, size isn’t the only new thing about it.
The innovative detachable disc drive is what’s got gamers talking.
Choose from the digital-only version or the model that comes with a disc drive – or you can upgrade and attach the disc drive at a later date.
How much is this going to cost?
The disc-based version maintains the $499 price point of the original.
The digital version has seen a price increase but is still slightly less expensive at $449.
The PlayStation disc drive will cost $80 separately – which ends up costing more than if you buy the full model to begin with.
The stand to store your PS5 vertically will also set you back $29, despite being included with the original version.
While the price hike isn’t huge, PS5 models have recently seen a drop in price with many able to grab the disc-based version for less.
Sony also announced that once the original models were no longer in production, it would make the Slim model the only one on the market.
Pre-orders for the PlayStation 5 ‘slim’ digital model have already begun.
The first new PS5 units are expected to drop in November.
