Family’s $350,000 pickup truck ends up in crocodile-infested waters

A family in Australia has had the holiday from hell.

While holidaying in Queensland, their $350,000 pickup truck was stolen.

If that’s not bad enough, it was then callously dumped in crocodile-infested waters.

Linda and Stewart Gander were asleep just meters from their caravan in Yeppoon on Queensland’s Capricorn Coast when a group of teenagers snuck inside and allegedly stole the keys to their Ford F350 truck.

Now, kids will be kids, but these teenagers did a lot of damage.

According to Ms Gander, the thieves shouted profanties as they sped away and rammed the gate of the caravan park.

Stewart Gander’s wallet, credit cards, and carpentry tools were also inside the vehicle when it was allegedly taken.

The Ganders weren’t the only victims that night, as the family camping beside them were also robbed of their vehicle – a brand new Nissan Patrol.

What the thieves did next is truly unbelievable.

The police told the devastated couple the ute had been spotted doing 150 km/h (93 mph) and ramming into several vehicles, including a police car.

After having their ‘fun’, the thieves then decided to abandon the truck in the Fitzroy River, which is infested with crocodiles.

A major rescue operation had to be launched to retrieve the stolen vehicle from the bottom of the muddy river.

Those involved in the rescue operation first used magnets tied to string to locate the vehicle, before they connected cables and hauled it out of the thick sludge.

Police officers also had to keep an eye out for approaching crocodiles as they rescued the truck.

By the sounds of it, it’ll be a holiday the Ganders will never forget.
