A while back, a surfer in Australia recovered a Rolex watch that had been rusting away at the bottom of the ocean for some time.

The watch was in bad shape but has since been restored – and it looks tremendous.

A few months ago, an Australian surfer named Matt Cuddihy retrieved this rare Rolex Submariner from the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Despite its terrible condition, the watch still had the potential to be worth a lot of money.

However, Matt did the noble thing and shared the pictures to Instagram, hoping to locate the rightful owner of the debris-encrusted timepiece.

It took him a while but it worked, and months later, the owner of the watch got in touch with him with the help of Fratello Watches.

The owner was able to prove the Rolex was indeed his thanks to a unique inscription engraved on the back of the watch.

After getting it back, he decided to take it to Rolex to have it restored to its former glory.

And it worked a treat.

Ric, the owner in question, shared images of the watch and it looks like it was bought from a Rolex authorized dealer just yesterday.

The Submariner is an expensive timepiece, with a market value of around $10,000.

But this particular Submariner is priceless to its owner, considering this was a gift from his father.
