Check out this incredible footage of ‘The Line’ in Saudi Arabia.
It’s a satellite fly-by at night of the Kingdom’s linear smart city currently under construction.
We have already seen the insane progress being made on the $1 trillion giga-project, but this new footage gives brand new scope of what’s to come.
The satellite footage, captured by Soar Earth, an Australian startup that aggregates satellite imagery and crowdsourced maps into an online digital atlas.
And it shows how far the project has come in a short space of time.
Apparently, workers have already excavated around 26 million cubic meters of earth and rock – 78 times the volume of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.
The Line’s vast linear building site is already taking shape, running as a straight as an arrow across the deserts and through the mountains of northern Saudi Arabia.
The site, tens of meters deep in places, is teeming with many hundreds of construction vehicles and likely thousands of workers, themselves housed in sprawling bases nearby.

The futuristic Neom mega-project and its flagship region ‘The Line’ are enormous in scale.
The project’s biggest attraction by far is ‘The Line’ – a linear city powered by renewable energy sources.
Designed by Santa Monica-based firm, Morphosis Architects, the structure will be 105 miles (160 kilometers) long, 500 meters high and 200 meters wide.
It almost looks like a horizontal skyscraper – except it costs a lot more.
The goal is to build a city that can fully support itself and accommodate up to nine million residents.
That equates to 8,350 acres or 13.5 square miles, making The Line larger than the Principality of Monaco and Gibraltar combined.
The city will include residential areas as well as commercial areas, along with its own stadium, a yacht marina, and other facilities like shopping malls and office spaces.
The Line will also have its own public transport system, making it possible to travel from one end of the city to the other in just 20 minutes.
The Line is one of 10 different regions that make up the Neom giga-project.
These regions will include a floating industrial complex, a global trade hub, and multiple tourist resorts.
Each region will have its unique specialties and attractions.
Check out our guide to all the regions of Neom if you want to know more.
The site chosen for the futuristic giga-project is 26,500 sq km (10,200 sq mi) wide – almost the size of Belgium.
It is located in the northwestern Tabuk Province of Saudi Arabia.
The special economic zone of Neom sits at the crossroads of three continents, making it more accessible.
The city is located north of the Red Sea, east of Egypt across the Gulf of Aqaba, and south of Jordan.
As well as the 10 different regions, the city will also feature a skyscraper as tall as the Eiffel Tower to be built in Saudi Arabia’s desert ski resort.
