Sony has just announced a brand-new PlayStation 5 console.
The announcement was made overnight, seemingly out of the blue.
And this console is a lot smaller and sleeker.

What’s new
What makes the new PS5 console different?
The new PS5 model comes with a detachable disc drive and 1TB of internal storage.
Unofficially called the PS5 Slim (due to its sleeker design), it will replace both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition.
Sony says the new PS5 model will be available starting this November in the U.S.
Just in time for Christmas presents, we can imagine.
So, what will the new model set you back?
PS5 price
The PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will cost $499.99.
Meanwhile, the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at $449.99.
PlayStation 5 console options
Sony says it will release a variety of console covers for the new model in 2024, including an all-matte black colorway and a Deep Earth Collection.
The Deep Earth Collection will include Volcanic Red, Cobalt Blue and Sterling Silver.
But if you want to splash out on a cover, it will cost an additional $54.99.
The new console will come with a horizontal stand, but there will be a vertical stand available to buy.
Game play
Sony’s playing it smart too, because the new console will be released just days after the launch of a bunch of new games including Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Alan Wake 2 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will also launch shortly after.
Together with recent releases EA Sports FC 24, Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, and Baldur’s Gate 3, gamers won’t be short for something to play over the holiday season.
After Sony announced the new-look console, gamers took to X with mixed opinions.
“I kind of hate the lines running down the middle. Ruins the whole look. I would’ve preferred the typical PS5 look, even if smaller,” one guy said.
“I have to say, it’s good to see a new iteration smaller and lighter,” another said.
