Germany has impounded the world’s largest superyacht, the 157-metre Dilbar.

The enormous ship is estimated to be worth about $735 million and costs $60 million a year to operate.

To give you an idea of how big this thing is, if you stood it upright the Dilbar would tower over the Pyramid of Giza (which is 137 metres tall).

But the Dilbar won’t be sailing the high seas any time soon, it’s at a shipyard in Hamburg indefinitely.

Germany’s federal police said the Dilbar was owned by the sister of Russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov. They are both on the EU sanctions list.

The list is part of the European Commission’s ‘Freeze and Seize’ Task Force, which targets Russian and Belarussian oligarchs with links to the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin.

The crackdown on oligarchs has been driven by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24.

The UK government reckons Usmanov is worth $18.4 billion.

Usmanov has tentacles across Europe and even has stakes in Arsenal and Everton football clubs.

How big is the Dilbar superyacht?

The 157-metre Dilbar superyacht is named after Usmanov’s mother.

It has the largest indoor pool ever installed on a yacht, 25 metres in length.

The yacht also has two helipads.

A crew of 96 people is needed to run the massive ship, but they were all laid off earlier this year because of sanctions against oligarchs.

Meanwhile a Jersey court has ordered $7 billion worth of assets linked to another Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich to be frozen, the BBC reported.
