While you might expect celebrities to be sporting the latest tech, Eminem has surprised fans with the mobile phone he uses.

A rare photo captured The Real Slim Shady scrolling – if the retro phone even has that functionality.

In fact, the phone is so outdated fans believe it could be the latest in an elaborate joke.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted the vintage gadget in a photo that Eminem was tagged in on Instagram by DJWhooKid.

It was captioned: ‘… and by the way yes. He still has a blackberry phone.’

Racking up in excess of 3,500 likes (at the time of writing), it was when the image was shared to Reddit that fans dug deeper.

Some fans believe the joke is in line with his other long-running gag about his selfie-taking skills.

“One user responded: ‘”I mean, blackberry phones don’t even work anymore so… I’m inclined to believe he’s running with the joke too. It’s his classic, dry style of humour,” said one

“This is clearly a joke he runs with. Lol. And the technology thing is also a running joke. The guy is a global star who has traveled the world and back. And also produces/ mixes music etc. he knows how to take a selfie and use a phone/ computer. lol,” said a second.

Others were simply filled with nostalgia over the retro tech.

“I loved my blackberry, I dont blame him. I hated my first android when I got it and still rolled with the bbm app for years,” one said wistfully.

“And other respected Eminem for his retro collection, with one fan commenting: ‘”Respect. I still have a PS2 and an ipod nano!” agreed a second.

While many associate fame and fortune with the latest tech – like Pharrell Williams being one of the first spotted in the Tesla Cybertruck – many are far more humble.

Daniel Radcliffe famously bought a car worth $5k despite having millions in the bank.

What’s more, Elon Musk has a tiny $50,000 home – and often sleeps under desks at his offices.

When you think wealth, you probably think of people owning the latest and greatest.

For example, has been spotted driving – and attempted parking – the recently launched Tesla Cybertruck.

After being introduced, 1999, the Blackberry smartphone became a global sensation.

By late 2013, BlackBerry had 85 million users.

However, numbers gradually declined over the next decade as iPhones and Androids became the new products everyone wanted to get their hands on.

BlackBerry phones were officially “decommissioned” in January 2022.

In other words: the Canadian company’s phones are officially useless.

BlackBerry is now focused on cybersecurity and encryption services, per Screen Rant.

Is it a hoax or are Blackberry using the Grammy-Award winner to say: “Guess who’s back, back again”.
