$2 billion private submarine concept has a helipad and can lurk underwater for weeks

Private submarines are the future toys for the ultra-rich who already have everything and cash is burning a searing hole in their pockets.

Sure, superyachts are cool.

But super submarines have a real James Bond villain energy.

We’ve rounded up the wildest private submarine concept designs out there and they are insanely cool, but also a bit terrifying. If you Google thalassophobia you’ll see what we mean.

1. Carapace

This concept is the best of both worlds, a superyacht that can submerge and travel underwater.

The design is by Elena Nappi, a legit naval architect.

She promises this incredible-looking machine can plunge to 985 feet underwater and hang out at those depths for 10 days at a time.

The thing about these concepts is that there’s never a price listed. But something like the Carapace will cost buyers hundreds of millions of dollars.

It has been designed with a diesel-electric and fuel cell engine, and would measure 265 feet in length

Inside, the lucky owners would have three deck levels, a lounge, spa, bar and even a health club.

Sounds great right? So when will we see one cruising the high seas?

“If we make a comparison with the automotive sector, it is not hard to understand that the road to this type of boat is still very far away,” Nappi said, according to CNN.

2. Migaloo M7

This 283-metre long vessel is the largest in the fleet of concepts from Migaloo Submarines.

The design claims it would be capable of a speed of 32 knots on the surface and 21 knots underwater. It could stay underwater for weeks.

The Austrian company Migaloo Private Submersible Yachts doesn’t list a price tag for the M7, but some industry experts reckon it would cost about $2 billion.

The M7 has glass walls in a 36-seat dining room, a cinema room and a helipad.

We’re not sure where the helicopter goes when you send the order for the captain to dive….

The submersibles are inspired by modern Zumwalt-class destroyer ships and look totally bonkers. There are also smaller versions available if the Migaloo M7 looks a bit too large for your wallet.

3. Aston Martin’s Project Neptune

If the two concepts above are a bit gigantic for your tastes, check out this collaboration between Aston Martin and Triton Submarines.

It’s called Project Neptune and is a limited edition ‘luxury submersible’.

From the rear you can see the similarities to the $4 million hypercar, the Aston Martin Valkyrie.

Triton is already making some incredible submersibles that are used by documentary filmmakers, scientists and by tourism groups.

It even makes subs capable of tackling the deepest points of our oceans – the Abyssal and Hadal zones.

It’s the perfect choice to team up with a brand like Aston Martin.
