The millionaires and billionaires of Dubai want what they want, and they’re willing to pay for it.
After the world’s most expensive number plate, Dubai set a new record for the world’s most expensive SIM card.
Dubai holds several world records for the world’s most expensive license plate.
This particularly wild record was first set in Dubai, and now it keeps being beaten, and it’s always in Dubai.
The city also can boast other, slightly less ‘strange’ records, such as the longest cantilevered building in the world.

But the newest record is truly odd, probably the craziest yet, because somebody paid a whopping 3.2 million AED, which is around $871,000 at today’s rate, for a DU SIM card.
Imagine that, a SIM card that costs more than most cars and even some homes or boats.
So what’s so special about this SIM card?
Two things.
The first thing that makes it special is it features a number that wealthy people in the UAE clearly love.
We say that because the very same number often appears in the record-breaking license plates we mentioned earlier.
We aren’t going to tell you what it is, but you could probably work it out with a bit of thought.

And then the second feature, and arguably the most important, is the SIM card has many consecutive numbers.
This means it’s also super easy to remember as well.
Although we’re fairly sure that’s not the point.
To put this into perspective, $871k is enough to buy the vast majority of cars on the market today, including about 23 Chevy Bolts.

It is also enough to buy the rare Richard Mille watch (pictured above) that soccer star Karim Benzema wore during the Ballon d’Or ceremony a couple of years ago.
It’s a lot of money for a SIM card, basically.
But you already knew that.
