The rumors are true, we're finally getting a Suzuki Jimny 5-Door

Following years of rumors, the Suzuki Jimny has officially got five doors.

The long-awaited 5-door variant was revealed this week at the Auto Expo in Delhi.

And there’s a very good reason it was unveiled in India.

The Jimny 5-Door SUV will, for now at least, only be sold in India.

It will be powered by a 1.5-liter gas engine, and buyers will have the choice between a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

To accommodate the extra doors, the Jimny will be stretched by 13.5 inches, from 143.5 inches (12 feet) to 157 inches (13 feet).

It will now have a bigger trunk space at 7.3 cubic feet, and a wheelbase that measures 102 inches.

The width and height of the Jimny will remain unchanged at 64.8 inches wide and 67.7 inches tall.

So, it still won’t be a big car by any means.

The 5-Door will wear the same boxy body and flared wheel arches as the 3-door.

It will also have the iconic spare wheel mounted at the back.

The only styling update appears to be the chrome-infused grille.

The inside also remains largely the same.

The dashboard comes with a 7-inch or 9-inch touchscreen.

There are a few upgrades, including cruise control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The company says the 5-door Suzuki Jimny will go on sale in India in May before it hits other markets including Australia, Africa and Latin America.

While there were rumors of a hybrid set up for the 5-door Jimny, they didn’t come to fruition.

Although this could obviously change as the cult car rolls out to other markets.
