Tesla Semi spotted driving down busy California highway

The elusive Tesla Semi has been spotted driving along a highway in California.

The Semi was first teased by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in 2017 and was expected to go on the market in 2019.

But in typical Tesla fashion, it was pushed back (a lot).

Tesla was clearly not trying to hide the Semi, because it was being driven along a super busy road in Palo Alto.

The rig, which was without its detachable trailer, was racking up some serious miles too.

It was spotted by another keen observer later in the day along the 580 in California.

The video didn’t just capture the design of the truck, it also captured its unique sound, or lack thereof.

It doesn’t have the same deafening roar of a standard truck.

Instead, the all-electric Semi is almost totally silent.

Development of the highly anticipated Semi is still underway and we are no closer to knowing when it will be released.

Despite this, Tesla is already taking orders for it.

The Semi will cost about US$180,000 for a truck with a 805km (500 mile) range.

The Tesla truck will cost about $150,000 for a truck with a 483km (300 mile) range.

Tesla requires a $5000 credit card deposit upfront and a further $15,000 by wire transfer within the following 10 days to secure the order.

Walmart, FedEx and PepsiCo are all believed to have placed orders for it.

Customers are yet to learn when exactly they’ll be getting their orders, but production is expected to start in 2023.

By the time the Tesla Semi eventually hits the market, it will not be the first of its kind.

Volvo and Nikola are also producing all-electric semis.

So, it’s a race to the finish line.

Let’s hope Elon packed his sneakers.
