This is likely to be one of the more unusual stories you’ll read about a world record being broken.

No, it’s not a custom-built racer smashing the world record for acceleration, nor is it an electric boat setting a new world record for the longest 24-hour distance.

A kid in the US has actually broken the world record for most Instagram likes on a comment in a post.

We’re not making it up – it genuinely happened – and he didn’t even really do anything to break the record.

7th grader Reed Harrington is just like any other kid, using social media to have fun and often taking part in ‘challenges’.

A quick browse of the young man’s Instagram account shows he spends most days recording his challenge attempts.

But when Harrington posted a video recently, he wouldn’t have expected it to gain the response it did.

Around two weeks ago the budding influencer posted a new video for his followers.

“Okay, when I hit 200,000 followers, I’ll do whatever the top comment says on this video and post it,” Harrington said.

fiven9nekid responded to the video and that’s when things started happening.

“Fly to a small town in Thailand, get accepted by their people, learn the language, train in Muay Thai for a year and a half, fight in a tournament, win the tournament, return to the USA and join the UFC, stay in shape and go undefeated in your weight class, retire and do an interview saying this comment was the reason you fought so hard,” he replied.

Bit of an unusual thing to say but then again, the internet isn’t short of people posting unusual things.

Whether people found the reply funny or whether they genuinely want to see Harrington take on the challenge, who knows – but the comment has amassed more than 2.1 million likes.

Clearly, there are people who want to see the young man succeed, as his follower count has topped 259,000 and he’s had plenty of messages of support.

“I have NEVER seen a comment get over 1 million likes. Enjoy Thailand,” one user said.

“Got your passport ready?” another quipped.

“Bros about to take over Thailand,” a third posted.

Harrington’s post has even drawn support from other influencers like Kush Papi, who has two million followers on the platform.

In case you don’t know – and we had to Google it – Kush Papi is a comedian, digital influencer, and musician from Chicago, Illinois.

“I’ll pay for the Thailand ticket,” Kush Papi responded to the video.
