Man finds rare 1982 Corvette abandoned in a barn for 42 years

Everyone likes gazing upon a Corvette, especially if it’s a 1982 Corvette Collector’s Edition find.

But one of these was rotting away in a barn for 42 years, and someone found it.

The man who found it actually knew the owner and helped deliver the car to folks from the WD Detailing YouTube channel.

This Chevy is so rare nowadays that seeing one is a joyride if you’re an enthusiast.

But that’s not the only special thing about this 1982 Corvette.

It has only 33 miles clocked on the odometer.

Yes, you read that right.

The owner likely bought the car, drove it to his garage, and never took it out again.

It even has a temporary license plate if you find that hard to believe.

So, what happens to a 1982 Corvette abandoned for 42 years in a barn?

WD Detailing showcased the car’s condition in a video.

While it may look filthy from the outside, it is still in factory condition. Well, almost.

The interior seems untouched, and some places even have factory plastics.

The seat covers and other areas that may indicate signs of use still look new.

Further, the YouTubers took the Chevy to their workshop and tried restoring it.

After an extremely long wash and detailing, the car looks beautiful, to say the least.

It’s not that the car didn’t show signs of damage, but it’s better than one would expect.

There was a mouse nest, a minor scratch, and broken gaskets.

It might have been better if the owner had put it in a heated garage, just like this abandoned NSX parked in one for 30 years.

Anyhow, the car looks good enough to stay in a garage for someone to show it off.

That’s because they didn’t manage to get the car running.

Four decades do a fair bit of damage to the mechanical parts, and it will likely never hit the roads again.

Despite all that, it’s still an extremely remarkable find for a car collection.

1982 was the final year for the C3 Corvette, and this Collector’s Edition had unique features that others didn’t.

For instance, it had a crossfire injection system, a rear window that can be opened to access the space behind the seats, and, of course, a special badge.

Apart from the fancy features, it was quite powerful, too.

The 5.7-liter V8 engine produced 200 hp that went through a 4-speed transmission.

It was a great car in its time.

WD Detailing mentioned that they would return the car to its original owner after completing the restoration.
