Explorer discovers hundreds of cars abandoned in a mountain cave

A TikToker uncovered a bunch of abandoned cars inside a cave, deep in the mountains.

Based on make, model and era, these cars appear to be coming from the same place.

Now the only questions are, who put them there and why?

According to the TikToker, who goes by ‘Exploring with Joshy’ on the platform, the cars are stolen and are from the 1950s.

We have no way to determine whether the first part is true but, as many users point out in the comment section, many of these cars are from the 1980s, not the 1950s.

And also, every car in view is a Volkswagen, either a VW Beetle or a VW Golf.

Josh doesn’t explain where this cave is, but at this point the stolen cars theory is just as plausible as any.

The ‘problem’ with abandoned cars

People discover all kinds of abandoned cars, in all kinds of places.

And the problem is, it is almost always nigh on impossible to understand what happened.

Sometimes there are clues and hints, but we hardly ever receive an explanation beyond doubt.

There are exceptions, of course.

That’s the case with the brand-new Tesla Roadsters uncovered in shipping containers after over a decade.

These cars were bought new by a Chinese EV company that wanted to test them and reverse engineer them.

Ironically, the company went bust shortly after placing the order, which is why the cars sat abandoned in the container for so long.

Abandoned car collections are sometimes worth millions

Abandoned cars can be worth a lot, depending on a variety of factors.

In 2015, a car collection left behind by a French businessman sold at auction for $52 million.

The story behind this collection is also very straightforward.

A French entrepreneur who wanted to open a classic car museum began amassing rare cars in the 1950s.

At one point, he owned 200 cars but he was running out of cash, so his family made him sell 50 of them.

After his passing, the cars were left to rot in a barn in France, before being sold during the aforementioned auction.
