Buick shows off its all-new Wildcat and says it’s only making EVs from now on

Buick has unveiled the Wildcat EV concept and it’s unlike anything that’s come before it.
The Wildcat is the beginning of an all-electric future for Buick, which said its lineup will be made up entirely of EVs by 2030.
Interestingly, Buick has used a coupe to tease its future look rather than an SUV – even though the brand is made up entirely of SUVs.

Buick also said it had no plan to deviate from SUVs.
“While it doesn’t align with an SUV portfolio, it probably is the best canvas in our mind to demonstrate the new design language,” Buick design director Bob Boniface said.

The 2-door coupe concept has a streamlined, aggressive look, with sculpted sides.
The doors are called semi-swing – which means part of the roof panel pops open to make it easier for passengers to get in and out.
Buick has also introduced its new logo on the EV; a simple tri-colored logo in red, white and blue.
The new logo will be used on all new Buicks from 2023.
Designers have given the concept a bold front appearance with a trapezoidal grille.
The grille will be used on future production models as the brand goes electric.
Speaking of brand new design features, almost everything inside the cabin ‘floats’.

The interior was designed to appear as if it’s floating, including the seats which hover above the floor of the car.
Buick also fitted the cabin with colors “intended to strike an emotional chord”.
It’s finished in Legato Green and accented with brushed or polished aluminum trim.
The design team also added bright orange seat belts.
The car can also detect if the driver’s heart rate rapidly increases and will adjust the settings to calm them down.
When Zen Mode is activated, it will dim the cabin lights, release calming aromatherapy scents and activate the massaging seats.
While the Wildcat EV concept won’t make it into production, Buick said aspects of the car will be seen in new releases.
“The Wildcat EV concept represents the real design future for the brand,” Global Buick and GMC Design executive director Sharon Gauci said.
“Buick has always been forward-looking and this expression is a glimpse of where we’re going and the optimism we have for the limitless possibilities of an electric future.”
The brand’s first all-electric car will go on sale next year.

- Blade-style taillights embedded in the roof’s sail panels
- An external “state of charge” indicator visible in the exterior hatchback glass
