This nine-year-old boy found $5k in cash whilst cleaning a car and managed to return it to the South Carolina family who’d lost it.

Landon Melvin, from Plainfield, Indiana, was cleaning his dad’s car when he discovered the cash underneath a floor mat.

When he informed his dad, Michael, that an envelope containing thousands was in their car, they did their research to reunite it with the people who had lost it.

And that South Carolina family wanted to reward Landon for his good deed.

How this Good Samaritan 9-year-old found $5k in cash that a South Carolina family had lost

Good deeds are really nice, because they help us to see the best in other people.

Whether it was muscle car collectors rallying in support of a bullied Alabama boy, or students buying their school custodian his dream car, these moments make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

And it was no different for Landon Melvin.

Whilst cleaning out his dad’s Chevy Suburban, he discovered a large yellow envelope underneath one of the floor mats.

When he first raised the alarm to Michael, his dad didn’t take much notice.

“I was like he’s nine. ‘You found something, okay?’, ‘No, dad, I really did’, I walk over. I think it’s paperwork of some sort,” Michael recalled.

But once he got a look for himself, he was stunned.

He called up his wife and the three of them poured out the envelope’s contents onto the bed.

There was $5,000 in cash and cheques there.

Whilst some people might have been tempted to keep the loot for themselves, this wasn’t even a consideration for the Melvin family.

They sought to track down the previous owners of the Suburban, which they had taken ownership of a few months prior.

How the original owners chose to reward Landon

It turned out that the money had been lost when the original owners had driven down to Florida for a cruise.

And as you might expect, they were extremely thankful to have $5k returned to them.

As a token of appreciation, they gave Landon $1,000.

When asked how he would spend this huge amount, Landon replied: “I have no idea, it’s just upstairs in my room right now.

“We’ve just been thinking and thinking of all the things I could buy.”

Rewards like this are always nice to receive – especially when it’s for a good deed like this.

It reminds us of the time a Canadian billionaire gifted his business partner a Porsche as a way to say thanks.
