This abandoned 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was selling for just $1,800, way less than its $27,500 US market price.

Its original engine was still intact.

However, there was a big catch.

It was so big, in fact, that one auto expert advised potential buyers to ‘walk away’.

Abandoned 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The classic car was listed via BackyardClassicsTRF on eBay for a shockingly low price.

However, some hidden major issues explained the blue-paint bargain.

The abandoned 1977 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is for sale for just $1,800 on eBay – far less than the $27,500 the same model has been seen to bring from elsewhere.

When it rolled off the production line, the two-door model was in high demand.

In fact, Chevrolet sold over 400,000 Monte Carlos in 1977.

The listing warns: “Most of our vehicles are projects.”

“They need a lot of love. They have been in fields, barns, garages and yards for many years.

“They need total restoration.

“Most components need attention.

“We are not responsible for buying new parts that are not operating.”

The listing expires on November 17 with full payment required within a week of purchase.

So what’s the issue?

Sadly, the listing’s pictures of the classic vehicle reveal that significant rust has eaten its way through the blue paint and the body beneath, which could be a reason to swerve the listing.

Claims on the eBay listing said the original 350 V8 engine was intact.

However, it’s also warned that it’s ‘stuck’, meaning buyers would need to install a new unit to get the car home from Backyard Classics garage in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, US.

‘A lot of rust’ and an ‘unknown’ frame condition was also declared – likely due to the car having been in situ for some time.

On the plus side, its clean title means the car was never reported to insurance companies for damage.

A cautionary tale comes from this eBay user who purchased a Pontiac GTO that had been sitting for 20 years and he instantly regretted his decision.

Conversely, this Rusty 1963 Mercury Monterey on eBay shows a lot of potential.

Finally, this ultra-rare 1972 Mustang for sale on eBay marked the end of the ‘muscle car era’ for Ford.
