The Toyota Supra is quite a wonderful sports car, but often its price makes it rather unattainable – well, one American man traveled to Alabama and found out the hot way that building your own can be just as costly.

Jack Builds It, a popular YouTube creator, has been rebuilding a Supra that was in dire straits.

The 1993 Toyota was in shocking condition, leaving Jack with little but the chassis to work with.

But after rebuilding its body, the American man nearly burnt down the entire car.

Toyota Supra rebuild in Alabama nearly goes up in flames

The American YouTube personality has been making progress on his Toyota Supra rebuild for some time, vlogging nearly every screw along the way.

But it turns out that getting more parts for these tricky Japanese sports cars can be quite an expensive matter.

The man often jets off on 1,000-mile trips to search for cheap parts that can help in the rebuild.

This time, Jack was working on the interior and was using parts that he traveled to Birmingham, Alabama for.

However, on installation, a wiring issue nearly sparked a roaring fire.

The mechanic found that the wiring harness was open and exposed with plugs with no sockets and cut wires.

One particular wire was found to have overheated and melted the coating on various different wires, and the old owner tried to bypass it with a thicker casing.

But with a fear that history could repeat itself and set his newly-built car alight, the man completely rewired his harness and found even more melted wires that needed replacing and insulating.

American man adds final touches to Supra rebuild

With the internal wirings fixed, the rest of the rebuild could continue.

New internal seats have been sourced for the car using leather and brown accents to compliment the green exterior.

The project nears completion, and it might not be long before the car finally hits the road again.

He’s not the only man building a Toyota Supra to come into difficulty, as another American YouTuber has bought one model that he owned a decade ago that needed some serious love.

The Supra rebuilds are set to bring these older models to life, but Toyota is moving forward with the final Supra ultimate series to make the pinnacle sports car.
