More than a decade ago, a C7 Corvette Stingray ‘accidentally’ became the first-ever 2014 Corvette Stingray to break past 200mph — well, sort of.
You see, it was meant to speed as much as it could during an experiment on the Grand Parkway toll road in Texas.
The supercar had just gotten a fancy upgrade package from Hennessey Performance Engineering that added tremendous amounts of power to it.
With that, it blazed past 200mph like it was nothing.

Texas authorities wanted the C7 Corvette Stingray to speed
The most interesting detail about this entire thing was that the C7 Corvette speeding was actually planned.
It was a social campaign to inform citizens about not speeding on toll roads and blazing past plazas so they could avoid a toll deduction.
Moreover, the experiment took place on a closed road, with several departments from the state of Texas watching.
They were there to see the then-new RFID-based toll system that worked with EZ-Pass in action.
What’s more, John Hennessey, the performance company’s founder, drove the upgraded C7 Corvette Stingray himself to reach a top speed of 200.6mph.
It had fancy upgrades installed to go past 200mph
As a matter of fact — Hennessey picked the stock Corvette Stingray that could only produce 460hp out of an extremely capable 6.2-liter V8.
The team saw the potential for much more performance, so they decided to upgrade it.
Further, the Corvette ended up with the company’s HP600 performance package, which included a few new parts and nitrous and tuned it to perfection.
The package also gave it a massive performance boost — and it was then pumping off 700 horses at 6,500rpm.
Ironically, they called it a ‘light’ upgrade.
Texas Department of Transport, Texas DPS, and several other departments witnessed this monstrosity of a supercar blaze past 200mph.
Although this happened in 2013, it’s still a worthy spectacle today.
