Ford ran over its new EV adapter with an F-150 Lightning to see if it could stand the test.
The goal was to see if it builds hardware as well as it builds trucks – and the results were crystal clear.
The EV adapter means that motorists can charge their cars at Tesla superchargers with no added fuss.
So, do you think it stood the test of the F-150?

Ford trucks are known for being seriously robust pieces of machinery.
From the F-150 to the Lightning, these things have serious power – but don’t just take our word for it.
This 92-year-old Californian woman refuses to drive anything but her manual 2000 Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup truck – which -in our opinion – must count for something.
Plus, this car salesman from Arizona revealed why he thinks the Ford F-150 Raptor is king too – so it’s straight from someone who knows the industry inside out.
But, in the ultimate test, Ford showed the strength of not only its trucks but the hardware too.
Enter the NACS (North American Charging System) EV Adapter

In a bid to show just how strong the new hardware was, Ford ran it over – and let’s just say it stood up to the test.
It was always going to though, wasn’t it?
The Fast Charging Adapter (NACS) program was launched in 2024 – it will cost you an additional $200 to get juice into your auto quickly, although now motorists can use countless more stations than before.
How does the adapter work?
Well, thanks to the widespread popularity of EVs – there are many charging stations where owners can plug in their vehicles to charge quickly, thanks to this new adapter.
Gone are the days when only Teslas were able to use its Superchargers; now, they can be plugged into the Ford adapter to charge quickly.
And, according to the company itself, it was designed with ‘Ford-specific reliability, robustness, and ergonomic requirements in mind’, which it says is built to create a ‘great charging experience’.
A big promise from such a small piece of equipment, you have to admit.
The Ford F-150 was used to test the adapter

As the truck weighs between 4,021 and 5,540lbs, the adapter had a challenge on its hands but it came out on top.
Suzanne Robinson, who works on the testing team, said that the charger was designed with durability in mind as they anticipated it’s customers dropping it ‘over and over again’
To test the creation it went through many harsh exams.
We’re talking the ‘freeze test’ and ‘ drop test’, as well as being submersed in water.
Ford really covered every base.
Then the ultimate tell all was using the F-150 to drive over it – in case an unfortunate drive-over accident should occur.
That’s right – according to Ford, one small adapter beat a huge truck.
So, for all you accident-prone EV owners, your greatest dreams have been answered.
But maybe don’t run the $200 piece of kit over straightaway – at least try and get your money’s worth eh?
