Beloved classic Jaguar being transformed into supercar by iconic racing brand

An iconic racing brand has radically transformed an iconic Jaguar into a stunning all-new supercar – introducing the TWR Supercat.

The TWR Supercat is – at heart – a Jaguar XJS, which was a car that came in for a little bit of criticism when it first came out.

Some didn’t like the way it looked, others noticed that it had – let’s say – some issues with reliability.

To others, it’s a stone-cold classic.

One thing we can all agree on is that TWR has allayed any concerns people might have had with the looks.

I mean, look at it.

This car definitely isn’t all about the visuals though – all of the top car manufacturers, such as the likes of Bugatti and Ferrari like to combine stunning visuals with outstanding performance.

In that same vein, this car can shift as well.

It boasts a supercharged V12 engine that kicks out 600 horsepower, and they’ve paid serious attention to keeping the weight of the vehicle down, meaning that all that power can be put down on the road.

The car sits on the foundations of the Jaguar XJS – which was the longest-running Jag to be sold – augmented with TWR’s racing car knowledge and pedigree.

Jaguar makes cars fit for James Bond, so we can be sure that the foundations are pretty strong.

TWR – short for Tom Walkinshaw Racing – has a longstanding history with Jaguar, having won the Bathurst, Spa 24 hours, and the European Touring Car Championship in an XJS.

This new company is run by the aforementioned Tom’s son Fergus, who has turned the classic – if divisive – Jag into a road-legal touring car for their first foray onto the roads.

The carbon-fiber body is inspired by ‘TWR’s performance and racing car history’ and that huge engine’s tuning package offers ‘visceral dynamics for those who desire a truly connected and analogue driving experience’.

Fergus Walkinshaw said: “After more than two years of extensive design, engineering, and development work, we are proud to unveil the design of TWR’s debut product.

“The outcome is a true drivers’ Super-GT built from the foundations of the iconic Jaguar XJS and appropriately named the Supercat.

“This bold expression of the breed fulfils our mission to build cars worthy of TWR’s winning legacy, starting with this remarkable car as it enters its 50th year.”

Each of the cars will be seriously customizable, so anyone with the right bank balance and the desire to own one will be able to have their TWR Supercat set up just how they like it.

Only 88 are being made – a reference to the year that TWR won at Le Mans.

So far, not everything has been revealed, and we’re promised a look inside the car – as well as a glimpse of what it can do on the road – later this summer.
