Koenigsegg is a brand that sits atop the tree of supercar royalty.

The Swedish standard bearers produce some of the most epic supercars in the world.

In spite of that, the brand pioneers innovation, and is always looking for improvement.

And three recent creations have completely redefined the supercar as we know it.

Koenigsegg: Swedish supercar supremacy

In August of 1994, a brand was established that changed the world of supercars forever.

Christian Von Koenigsegg established the brand with the dreams of building the best supercars on Earth.

Within two years, the company had developed their initial prototype.

Finally, in 2002, Koenigsegg announced itself to the world at the Geneva Motor Show.

The CC8S is the supercar that would mark the brand’s launch into the stratosphere.

Over the past 20 years, the company has gone from strength to strength.

Swedish brand’s innovations change the game

Unlike a lot of other brands, the Swedish company produces almost all of its components in-house.

Although their cars are…expensive, they’re also extremely original and unique.

In particular, there are three components it’s developed that are extremely impressive.

The first of the three is the “Quark” electric motor.

The Gemera utilizes this electric motor, which makes 335HP out of a small package weighing just 63lbs.

The Swedish brand also wanted to maximize space and minimize mass, in order to produce the maximum amount of power possible.

So the company utilized aerospace and motorsport-grade materials to produce the best machine possible.

Next up, we have the “Rocket” Catalytic Converter.

Essentially, a traditional catalytic converter converts hydrocarbons into carbon dioxide and water.

Despite being better for the environment, catalytic converters destroy performance.

So Koenigsegg decided to remake the traditional system.

The Swedes designed a set of valves to bypass the exhaust flow in order to boost performance.

The innovation results in a 300HP increase in performance – more than most normal cars entirely.

The last innovation made by the Swedish brand is called Dihedral “Synchro Helix” Door.

Is there anyone who doesn’t love gullwing doors?

Well, Christian’s company has made them even better – because gullwing doors can be complicated.

Basically, Koenigsegg managed to create doors that sweep outwards and upwards in the same motion.

This allows for much greater ease of use as well as for greater spatial awareness, too.

As usual, Koenigsegg continues to be at the forefront of innovation in the supercar world.

And we cannot wait to see what they come up with next.
