This Florida couple considered crossing the notorious Darien Gap between Central and South America in their camper van.
The couple were in Central America when they decided they wanted to take on the 60-mile stretch into South America.
But the duo admitted they didn’t quite understand how difficult the stretch would be.
And doing it in their camper van would only add to the complexity.

Couple takes on the Darien Gap
From the Snow & Curt YouTube channel, the couple started driving across the world in a camper van a few years ago.
They had been through most of Mexico and Central America, so they picked South America to be their next destination.
In a video from the early days of their journey, the YouTubers revealed their plans to drive to South America, saying there was a strip of land there, so why not?
It meant they could drive their van there rather than ship it across too.
But as they researched more and more, they found it was next to impossible.
The Darién Gap (also called Darien Gap) sits between the world’s longest highway — the Pan-American Highway — and is nothing but a dense jungle.
Despite not having roads, it’s still considered a part of the highway and connects Panama and Colombia.
The dangerous stretch between Colombia and Panama
Naturally, your everyday cars cannot pass through, but going by foot is an option.
It would, however, be hazardous to do so.
The 66-mile-long area is home to some of the most intimidating wildlife, paramilitary forces and traffickers.
But that doesn’t mean people haven’t crossed over — even in their cars.
Several expeditions were led through the Darien Gap in the 1960s and 1970s, including one from the carmaker Chevrolet.
It sent several Chevy Corvair models through the area to prove a point.
As a result, there’s one lying abandoned in the middle of the jungle even today.
But for the YouTubers, crossing the Darien Gap was obviously a no-go.
They decided to load their camper van on a cargo ship and fly to South America to continue their journey from Colombia.
Most people driving across the world often have to use cargo ships or ferries to transport their vehicles to areas unreachable by land.
Many enthusiasts living and traveling in their cars do it, so it’s actually a pretty standard practice.
In fact, there’s also another couple who traveled the world in their self-converted camper van, and they’ve traveled to more than 50 countries.
