Supercross rider creates amazing flying motorcycle ‘kite bike’

Kale Makeham had a wacky idea – to make a flying bike called a kite bike.

What started out as a wild thought became a reality after six months of hard work.

As an amateur pilot, Kale knew a bit about the mechanics of flying, which helped him create this unique ‘kite bike’.

Kale and his wild kite bike

The story of his simple idea, and how it turned into the kite bike is covered on the YouTube channel of the MWMX Show.

It took more than 6 months to create the flying bike, but Kale’s dedication made it happen.

However, he didn’t do it all alone.

To assist him in completing the project, he reached out to a five-time world champion hang glider who has set multiple world records.

He sent photos and videos to show what he was planning, then the pair conferred on what to do next,

The expert gave Kale some valuable advice on making the kite bike fly, and with this guidance, Kale was able to overcome the initial challenges.

You can always rely on people to come up with wacky ideas like the kite bike, or even a Lamborghini Aventador made out of old bicycles.

That’s one of the great things about human nature – we want to invent stuff!

However, these inventions come with their own problems.

For example, at first, it was tough to ride the bike and get it in the air.

But Kale explains that going quicker made it easier to control and fly.

The speed provides stability, allowing the bike to lift off the ground smoothly.

As a motocrosser, Kale doesn’t mind a bit of speed anyway.

Plan to cross the Murray River with the bike

To build the bike, he also got help from another skilled person who did all the metalwork and welding.

Collaboration and teamwork was crucial in bringing this kite bike to life.

After thoroughly testing it and learning how to ride it, Kale now wants to cross a river with this vehicle.

Although he has crossed the Murray River in his native Australia before with another bike, doing it with the kite bike is his next big challenge.
