This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 barn find turned out to be a super rare Yenko worth a staggering $500,000.

American racecar driver and dealership owner Donald Yenko began churning out the Yenko Camaro in 1967.

The cars were a high-performance version of the popular Chevrolet Camaro fitted with beefed-up engines.

Yenko made limited numbers of his Camaros meaning that they’re a pretty rare find.

The Camaro Z28 turned out to be an even rarer Yenko

Due to their popularity, it’s not too unusual for barn find enthusiasts to stumble upon a vintage Camaro – such as this guy who drove 11 hours to take a look at one, only to find out it was a rare Copo variant, or this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro Motion that came with its own very interesting past.

More recently, the guys from the Backyard Barn Finds YouTube channel visited the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN) in Illinois where there was an exhibition dedicated to barn finds, including this hidden gem 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z28.

But a closer inspection of the metallic-green car revealed that although it had Z28 emblems and badging, it was actually a Z28 clone that had started life as Yenko Camaro.

The vehicle would have originally been painted in  Butternut Yellow – the factory color for the 1967 Yenkos – and you can still see evidence of that old paintwork under the hood.

It also would have been fitted with a 7.0-liter (427 cubic-inch) big block capable of producing 450 horsepower.

The classic car could be worth $500,000

It’s unclear where the car was found, or why it ended up being abandoned but judging by its condition it’s safe to assume it’s been off the road for a while.

Although, it looks to be in need of some TLC, the car’s bodywork is rust-free.

Unfortunately, that Yenko-fitted drivetrain has gone.

It’s an incredibly rare find, with the Yenko registry listing just 56 vehicles for the year 1967 – this classic car is on it, listed as YS748.

It has also been authenticated by Camaro expert Jerry McNeish, who put a price tag of between $500,000 and $650,000.

An impressive find, right?

But to get that sort of price for it, the car will need to be restored to its original specifications – here’s hoping it ends up in the right hands to make that a reality.
