4. Nissan R390

We’re going to start with a bang, with the only street-legal Nissan R390 in existence.

There’s only one because the R390 was a race car, and Nissan had to build at least one road-going model for homologation purposes.

The automaker actually wanted to make a few more, priced at $1 million each, but it just never happened.

And it’s a shame it didn’t because this is a great car.

Delivering 550 hp from its 3.5-liter V8, the Nissan R390 has a top speed of 354 km/h (220 mph).

3. Nissan Z

The new Nissan Z, known as ‘Fairlady’ in Japan, is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6, sending 400 hp to the rear wheels courtesy of a 6-speed manual.

Old school stuff.

The good news is the Nissan Z is fast, fun and relatively inexpensive with an MSRSP of $42,000.

Unfortunately, the bad news is that it’s only available in Japan and North America, not in Europe or the UK.

Also, spoiler alert, the Nissan Z will be driven by Han in Fast and Furious 10, the upcoming Fast franchise finale.

2. Nissan GT-R

With the modern-day GT-R, Nissan decided to step things up a notch.

The GT-R was designed to combine supercar-level performance with luxury-car comfort.

It has creature comforts and a state-of-the-art infotainment system, but it’s still faster than most sports cars out there.

In its Nismo spec, the 2024 Nissan GT-R can accelerate from standstill to 60 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.5 seconds.

Back when it was new, a GT-R would only set you back $70,000.

Those days are long gone but, with a starting price of $117,000, the GT-R is still less expensive than most of its rivals.

1. Nissan Skyline GT-R R34

This is the ‘big daddy’ of underdog sports cars.

Except, the Skyline is no longer an underdog because the Fast and Furious franchise made it famous, and expensive.

Launched in 1999, the fifth generation Skyline GT-R is a pop culture icon, and it can still give most modern sports cars a run for their money.

Even the entry-level model is fast enough, putting out 330 hp and giving a car a 0-60 mph time of just over 4 seconds.

Collectors worship the Skyline GT-R R34, but the only problem is this car is now super rare.

Pre-owned examples in good condition cost the same as a brand-new Porsche Cayman these days.
