The Tesla Model S Plaid has recently set a new quarter-mile run record and it seems Elon Musk is quite pleased with it.

This new record makes the EV car one of the fastest-accelerating production cars, at least on paper.

Even Elon Musk reacted to this achievement as the Tesla Model S Plaid set a new quarter-mile record.

Tesla Model S Plaid new quarter-mile record

In the record-breaking run, the Tesla Model S Plaid achieved an 8.56-second quarter-mile time at a speed of 162mph.

This new record also makes the Model S Plaid, the second-fastest car to reach a quarter mile.

It is just behind Pininfarina Battista with an 8.55-second time.

The EV car also beats out Rimac Nevera, which has broken several speed records by 0.02 seconds.

However, it should be noted that the EV car had some components removed to reduce the weight.

Other than weight, additional crucial factors affect the speed of a car, such as tire temperature and track conditions.

Under optimal conditions, it is possible to shave off quite a bit of time.

Despite the drag race modifications, the Tesla Model S Plaid remained close to the stock with no additional changes to its powertrain.

This shows the immense potential of the production model of the EV car.

Additionally, the Tesla Model S Plaid can also reach 0-60mph in 1.87 seconds.

Elon Musk’s reaction

With this kind of speed, it is definitely one of the fastest-accelerating production cars.

Even Elon Musk seemed quite pleased with the new record and even posted about it on his X account.

Although the Tesla Model S Plaid can reach speeds of 200mph, it is capped at 166mph.

This is for safety reasons and to protect the car components from extreme speeds.

Now, just imagine what the new Tesla Roadster will be capable of when it launches in 2025.
