Would you like to start with the good news or the bad news first?

The good news is this gorgeous 13-piece Louis Vuitton bag collection, including a trunk designed specifically for FIFA World Cup balls, is heading to auction with Christie’s in the Spring.

The bad news is, according to the most recent estimate, you’re going to need up to US$102,000 to get the rare piece.

This amazing selection of 13 Louis Vuitton trunks belongs to a Japanese collector and it includes a variety of different pieces, ranging from small jewellery boxes to a made-to-order tablewear and wardrobe trunks that are taller than a supercar.

This is the year of the FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place in Qatar in November 2022, and that’s why everyone will be focusing on the party piece: an official match ball monogram trunk that contains replicas of the official Adidas match balls from the last 13 World Cups from Mexico 1970 to Russia 2018.

FIFA began using official Adidas match balls for the World Cup in 1970, until then the whole thing was a lot more casual.

They even give these balls official names from the Ja’bulani (South Africa 2010) to the Al Rihla, the ball that’s going to be used in Qatar in 2022.

The entire collection is valued at HK$3 million, equivalent to about US$430,000.

As for the World Cup ball trunk, only 25 pieces were made in total and this one’s valued about HK$600,000 to $800,000, about US$77,000 to $102,000.

The auction will take place on May 25 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
