The first ever YouTube video was uploaded way back in 2005.
It was a time when the internet wasn’t as normalized as today.
The date was April 23, 2005, and Jawed Karim inaugurated YouTube by posting the first video on the platform.
You wouldn’t believe it, but the video has earned a staggering amount of views since its upload.
Additionally, the person who uploaded the video is not a random individual.
He was one of the co-founders of the company besides Chad Hurley, and Steve Chan.
Jawed is an American software engineer and entrepreneur born in East Germany.
He later moved to the United States with his family.
Karim studied computer science at Stanford University, where he met his future YouTube co-founders.
Back to the first ever YouTube video, it’s titled ‘Me at the zoo’ and as of writing this article, it has got 322 million views.
It’s just a 19-second-long video with Jawed standing near some elephants in the San Diego Zoo.
In the video, he’s simply talking telling about his visit to the zoo and the long trunks of the elephants.
Even Jawed Karim couldn’t have predicted how popular this video would become in the future.
There’s just this single video on Karim’s YouTube channel, but it has gained an impressive 4.73 million subscribers from it.
Karim had a good share in YouTube, which made him quite wealthy, as he walked away with $64 million.
However, it’s nothing compared to the current value of the company.
Today, YouTube is everyone’s spot for fun and education, and Karim has a big share in making the platform what it is today.
His first-ever YouTube video laid the foundation for the billion-dollar company owned by Google.
